u - substitution

u substitution is a method for reversing the chain rule. To use u-substitution, replace the inner function of the chain rule with u. Differentiate that function with respect to dx, solve for dx, and substitute that into the integral for dx. move any coefficients outside the integral, cancel any x's, and anti-derive everything else within the integral. Once you have the function in terms of u, substitute the inner function for u. You can now derive with the chain rule to check.
